The City of Pleasanton, Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA), Alameda County Safe Routes to School and Foothill High School are proud to present Free Ride Wednesday, during the month of April, where Foothill High School students may board Wheels Routes 602 and 604 for free every Wednesday.

The goal of the campaign is to increase ridership and awareness of these designated school tripper routes which serve Foothill High School.

The event sponsors, including Foothill High School's Earth Club, are working together to encourage individuals to try public transportation to school as a healthy, fun, inexpensive and environmentally-friendly alternative to driving. Route 602 begins in the Mission Drive/Sunol Boulevard area and continues on to serve those living in the Del Prado Park, Valley Trails and Parkside neighborhoods.

Route 604 begins service in the Fairlands neighborhood and continues on to serve those living in the Hacienda Business Park and the Muirwood Park neighborhoods.

The main objectives of Ride Free Wednesday are to help reduce traffic congestion on Foothill Road and to alleviate safety hazards and congestion associated with the drop-off and pick-up of students at the high school.

The campaign aims to encourage students to make positive behavioral changes towards the use of public transit.
Foothill High School is part of a new high school pilot program with the Alameda County Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program. SRTS is part of a national initiative to support youth and families in walking, biking, carpooling and taking transit to school.

The campaign is also a collaboration of the City of Pleasanton and LAVTA with partial funds through the Alameda County Transportation Commission and Bay Area Air Quality Management District Transportation Fund for Clean Air.
